Pianist, Composer & Producer
In his own words, his music would be a failure if it would be described or labeled into a music genre. His music comes from every source of inspiration. Comes from a multicultural background, from his Latin heritage, but also from his American and European. From the love and respect towards art and music.
Pianist, composer and producer Mark Aanderud has been a leading musician for over a decade. He was born and raised in Mexico City and was introduced to the piano at an early age. His instinctive approach towards music went in direction of composition and improvisation even before learning to read notes. His love for Classical music was just the starting point for his interest in music and the infinite possibilities that exist within a particular style and the combination of them as an endless source. Mark has become a complex and eclectic musician who flows into whatever music is presented unto him.
Mark studied classical piano at the Escuela Nacional de Música (UNAM) in Mexico City, followed by summer courses with the Berklee School of Music and The School for Improvised Music (SIM) in New York. He has studied Jazz piano privately with Uri Caine, Jason Moran, Bill Carrothers, Vijay Iyer, and classical composition with Arturo Marquez before he ended his studies of classical composition at the Prague Academy of Music under Hanus Bartoñ.
Although Mark has done a career in Contemprary Jazz music, his interests go far beyond and is constantly looking for opportunities to get involved in music of other kinds. He creates projects than put him into experimenting any music style from Jazz, Experimental, Classical, Avant-garde, to Progressive Rock, Ambient, Electronic, Latin, Brazilian, merging all this into his own sounds and concepts. He has played and recorded with The Mars Volta, David Gilmore, Tim Berne, Billy Martin (Medeski, Martin, Wood), Cyro Baptista, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Eric Reeves, Stomu Takeishi, Natalia Lafourcade, Wolfgang Hafner, Ben Allison, Alex Sipiagin, Chris Cheek, Magos Herrera, Mike Moreno, Steven Bernstein (Sex Mob), Bill McHenry, Jonathan Kreizberg, Ben Perowsky, Eli Degibri, Ximena Sariñana, Ely Guerra, Hernan Hecht, Alex Kautz and many more.
